Hey guys!

You might have noticed I sort of dropped off the face of the world for pretty much a whole year. Oops.

Blogging and snapping photos became a lot of work for me. As did crafting for a long while. I'm getting back into it slowly-slowly. I found a new app that I love - Instagram - and I'm loving all the great craft and DIY people I've added there!

So I'll be uploading some of the things I've been working on over the next little while as I try and ease myself back into the swing of things.

All Instagram photos until I feel ok with getting out the "big girl" camera and photoshop!

And a big hello to all my new watchers who've come on board since I was here last!

Stamps for Sophie and Jon

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 10, 2011, 5:31 PM

Things are pretty busy over here at Chez Cheese, and I must admit I feel a little overwhelmed with everything that's going on and consequently not dealing too well with the stress! It's taken me a few weeks to "man up" and realise that putting my head in the sand won't make all the work go away; in fact it will only serve to increase my stress when I realise how late I've left everything!

That being said, there has been a little crafting going on as I slug away at commissions and try and relax in front of some TV with my new couch-craft - crochet.

More on the crochet later - for now, here are some of my latest stamp commissions.

Packaged stamps by restlesswillow

Sophie and Jon stamp by restlesswillow

A little monogram stamp made for S & J - Sophie and Jon. I really like how this turned out and I really should do more stamps inverse like this as I think it's a cute effect (and, let's face it, it's a lot easier than carving in relief!)

Address stamp by restlesswillow

This one was such a challenge to carve as the text is around 12pt type! That's very tiny, and very fiddly, and I always worry that my text never comes out straight or neat, but I guess that is part of the handmade, hand-carved charm, no?

I quite like the little pile of packages and letters next to the address and am thinking maybe I should have this design available for commission in my shop - what do you think?

Sewing a rainbow

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 7, 2011, 8:44 PM

This was another project I was so glad to go back and revisit. I made my very first rainbow scarf way back in June... 2008! twocheeseplease.livejournal.co… I still wear that rainbow scarf and love it just as much as the day I made it, and it gives me a funny feeling of nostalgia (mixed with a little embarrassment! ) to see all the wonky top-stitching. It's great to be able to see how much you've improved at something, but I'm not sure I entirely like having little wonky reminders around me!

So I was very happy when I received a request to make another rainbow scarf - this one even longer! My original scarf had 28 unique prints - this one has 43.. and then doubled for the repeat! That's a lot of strip piecing.

Rainbow scarf 1 by restlesswillow

It's backed with some of my favourite super-soft black microfleece.... and some more patchwork as I was about 5 inches too short of fleece (which, I'm sure you can imagine, is in short supply down here in summer!)

Rainbow scarf 3 by restlesswillow

Did I mention how loooooong this thing is? It's over 2 meters long! (2.5 yards long for those of you who still use the old measurements) I couldn't resist taking it for a twirl and I must say this is going to be hard to part with! I must have grown attached while I sewed strip after strip after strip of patchwork.

Isn't it funny how you become intertwined with your handmade creations, simply through the act of making them.

I am a sewing machine!

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 18, 2010, 2:47 AM

It feels so good to finally have some time to do some serious sewing.

Not just stolen moments of furtive stitching here and there, but some serious creative, meditative, head down concentrating sewing.

I'm making good progress on my commission backlog and working on some pretty exciting stuff that I hope I'll be able to show you real soon!

Right now I'm finishing up some long-overdue Legend of Zelda fanart slippers for a very patient lady.
(:icontechno--bunny:)

Here is a sneak peek for you, my lovelies!

WIP Link slippers v3.0 by restlesswillow

I managed to source some actual moccasin bottoms for the slippers, and they even have sheepskin inlay in them so they're so super soft and squishycomfy inside! I'm so excited about how they're turning out, I kinda wish I could keep these myself!

:star: And once again, thank you for all the sweet comments and :+fav:s! I try to answer each and every one of you because it really makes my day

The plague

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 23, 2010, 5:04 AM

Urgh, I picked up this nasty flu from god knows where, and it's really knocking me about at the moment. I've managed to skip all the snot (thank god for small mercies?) but it's attached itself to my stomach so basically I feel like I'm pregnant to a Gieger Alien. Not cool!

So I've had a week off work (no pay) and my dog was sick in dog hospital and then my girl dog needed to get fixed, so I'm totally feeling the pinch right now!

As soon as I'm well enough to make it out of bed I'm gonna finish off this round of commissions and then reopen for more to try and chip away at some of those vet bills!

I hope everyone down under has escaped the flu season -- and for those of you up in the Northern Hemisphere, keep safe and warm and healthy! Hi to all my new followers and thanks for all the :+fav:s and comments - you guys make my day!

Hi y'all!

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 12, 2010, 6:12 PM

To all of you who have made your way over here from my Make A Lightbox Tutorial...

Make a lightbox tutorial by restlesswillow

I'm not sure how I'm attracting so many new watchers lately but hi to you all! (Maybe my tutorial was featured somewhere?)

I know I've been a bit absent around here lately and my poor sad blog is looking very neglected too! I sort of fell in a heap when I was laid off at work, evicted from our house and nearly lost my partner!

But you know you can only wallow and waste time for so long so it's time to pick myself up, dust off the dirt on the arse of my pants and get back into sewing and blogging! I miss it so much!

Thanks for all your support these last few months and hi again to all my new watchers!

Commission info, prices and policies

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 27, 2010, 5:00 PM

I thought I would get some info on commissioning me up here since I'm getting so many inquiries lately!

{Let's get the nitty gritty out of the way first, then onto the details!}
Commissioning me means you agree to all the terms on the page and are bound by them. I have the right to decline any commission or commissioner for any reason at my own personal discretion. I will not create pornographic work. I reserve the right to use your commission as an example of my work in my DA gallery, at shows, or in my portfolio.

:bulletred:COMMISSION INFORMATION FOR PLUSHIES:bulletred:
1. Note me! I get so many inquiries every day that I can only take serious inquiries noted to me (it also lets me keep track of all the details we discuss). When contacting me for your plushie creation, please include references or detailed descriptions of the character you would like. If it something I think I can make, we discuss and decide on a final adoption price that suits your budget and my skill.

{Note: I am quite happy to work to your budget. If you are on a tight budget, perhaps consider a smaller version of your plushie or we can simplify the design as the more complex it is, the higher the price. I also am very open to payment plans – ie: you are quite welcome to pay your deposits or the final 50% in installments.}

2. Once we have discussed all the details and we have both decided to go ahead with the custom order, I ask for a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure your place on my waiting listing. My preferred method of payment is Paypal. Please note: if you decide to withdraw your commission at a later date, you cannot get this money back. However, if I can no longer complete your commission (eg: due to illness/other unexpected event) I will gladly refund your 25% deposit.

3. Once I have completed all commissions ahead of you, I require a further 25% non-refundable deposit before I commence work (making the amount paid so far 50% of the entire cost). This covers the cost of my material and time while making your plushie. Once that additional 25% non-refundable deposit has been paid, I will start work on your plushie!

{Note: I am quite open with the fact that commissions often take me a fair amount of time. If you require your plushie made quickly for an upcoming date, please advise me when we’re first discussing these details. If you choose to commission me it is with the understanding that I make quality work with a high level of detail that takes time, and I also need to work around my full time job.}

{Note: I send lots of updates (with photos!) during every part of the custom process. This is so you can have input over your plushie's creation at every step and ask for changes if need be. It's also because I love what I do and I would love you to be a part in your plushie's creation!}

4.  The remaining 50% + the cost of shipping is due after completion of your plushie. I give an approximate shipping cost up front but this may change upon completion as the price of shipping from Australia is dependent on size and weight – the shipping cost is not likely to change too much from what I quoted, however.

5. I will only hold your completed plushie for so long without final payment before deeming the commission voided. If this happens you will not get your 50% deposit back, and I will keep (and sell to someone else) your plushie. Please communicate with me if you get into financial difficulties at any point during your plushie's creation! We can always work something out.

{Note: When adopting from me, please keep in mind that these are for display or mild-play only; they are hand sewn as well as machine sewn and are not intended to be used as children's toys. I also come from a pet households (dogs & cats). While I do not allow my pets into my craft room, cross-contamination is unavoidable so I do wash/launder/wipe where applicable. If you have serious allergies please tell me and we'll see if we can work out a solution for you.}

You can follow the progress of your plushie or your place on the waiting list on my most current journal. I update my commission section as I make progress but I only update my most current journal so please check there if you're curious about how your plushie is coming along or where you are on my waiting list.

:bulletred:COMMISSION INFORMATION FOR HAND CARVED STAMPS:bulletred:
1. If you are interested in a custom hand carved stamp, please note me with a detailed description of what you are after (especially including size) and if possible please include example images. After we have discussed all the details I will offer a final price – all prices are subject to complexity and size of the stamp, and please note any lettering carving will increase the cost of the stamp.  Once we have both decided to go ahead with the commission I will complete a mock-up and send it to you for approval.

{Note: The cost of a custom hand carved stamp does not include any design work. If you would like a logo (or similar) designed by me, this will cost extra.}

2. Once you have approved the design, I require payment in full, including any shipping costs. My preferred method is Paypal. Once I have received payment in full, I will begin carving.

3. When the commission is done, I will mail your stamp with detailed care instructions in sealed ziplock packaging to protect it from the elements.

You can follow the progress of your custom hand carved stamp on my most current journal. I update my commission section as I make progress but I only update my most current journal so please check there if you're curious about how your stamp is coming along.

:bulletred:BASE PRICES:bulletred:
Please note these are base prices to use as guidelines for my rates. All prices are subject to availability of requested materials as well as size and complexity, so each commission will be priced on a case by case basis. :bulletred:PAYMENT METHODS:bulletred:
My preferred method of payment is Paypal (restlesswillow (at) gmail (dot) com). You do not need a PayPal account that is linked to your bank to pay through PayPal; any major debit/credit card can be used to pay an invoice!  When you send a payment by PayPal, please include your DA name in the subject so I know who the payment is from.
I am also open to trades for some of my custom work – please make sure it is an item of similar value (not just price-wise but also time-wise!) and please don’t be offended if I cannot trade with you as I have very particular tastes and often need money vs goods at a particular time. If you would like to investigate a trade with me – don’t hesitate to note and ask!

I am the slowest sewer ever.

Mon Feb 1, 2010, 9:50 PM
:iconrestlesswillow:

When I take commissions I usually warn people that they shouldn't expect their plush zooming across the ocean in a week. In fact it's more likely to be a couple of months. I don't know why - if I sat down and sewed every night I could probably have it done in 2 weeks.

Okay, I guess I do know why.

I get home at 6pm after 9+ hours of work, and then I have to feed the animals and clean up after the hurricane destruction of said animals (puppies... never again!) and then think about feeding the people and then we have to actually eat the food and then by then it's about 8:30pm and I'm on the couch and the half-finished plush is several rooms away and gravity and tiredness are winning.

And if people are okay with that then we begin the custom plush commission journey.

So here is my latest commission, one that has been in the works now for more months than I care to mention in public. Ahem. I'm sorry, Anzhu! I'm working, and I'll work harder.

Aeus WIP - nose by restlesswillow    aeus WIP - no nose by restlesswillow

These photos were taken last night to send to his adopter so they can make a very important decision - nose or no nose?

This also enabled some procrastination as I'd been wanting to try a different image treatment for a while now. My old style was okay I guess - a blue border and my name/date but it was pretty boring. I love polaroids (who doesn't?) and have been wanting to do something like this for a while (-if people are interested I can even share how I made the masking tape in photoshop...). I'm not sure whether I'll keep it in the long term. What do people think?

Would having several polaroids in each and every post be too much? Or cute? You can be honest! I need the feedback. I am a little bit fond of the two cheeses I made for the border though.

Aeus WIP - hair by restlesswillow

Here is poor Aeus (that's his name, you know. Aeus the Night Elf) with the world's worst comb over - just a few strands of yarn draped over his bald melon so his adopter can see the yarn I've chosen for his hair.

Sigh!

Lately when I've been browsing around on DA or on craft/illustration blogs, I keep seeing things in either two ways.

1. "Oh hey, that drawing would make a really cute plushie!"

2. "Oh hey, that drawing would make a really cute appliqué!"

If only I had more free time to dive in when this inspiration hits.

2009

Wed Dec 30, 2009, 11:28 PM
:iconrestlesswillow:

As you might be able to tell, I'm not the best at writing journals here. I do have a more frequently updated blog you can find over here twocheeseplease.livejournal.com

So it's nearly the end of 2009 - crazy crazy huh!

This has been a big year for me.

:bulletgreen:I got dumped by my fiance.
:bulletgreen:I GOT INVITED TO EXIHIBIT AT THE STITCHES AND CRAFT SHOW! (Australia's biggest craft exhibitioin)
:bulletgreen:I bought 30 metres of felt. In one transaction!
:bulletgreen:I lived through the worst natural disaster in Australia's history, as fire swept across my state.
:bulletgreen:I hand stamped my own fabric with my own hand carved stamps.
:bulletgreen:I travelled all the way to Brisbane to do the Brisbane Stitches & Craft show.
:bulletgreen:I did my first regular craft market.
:bulletgreen:I started a month of stamps - Stamping Up July.
:bulletgreen:I graduated university!
:bulletgreen:I lost 20kgs (44 lbs - go me!)
:bulletgreen:I met Jon. Stamping Up July took second seat.
:bulletgreen:I discovered needle felting with a passion.
:bulletgreen:I made a 6 foot plush ice cream cone for charity to travel QLD.
:bulletgreen:I got the courage up to apply for Plush You - and was accepted!
:bulletgreen:I moved in with Jon, and shattered Charlie's (the cat) serenity by getting two hyper puppies.
:bulletgreen:I started full time work in marketing at Spotlight - it's like Michael's combined with Joann's combined with party supplies combined with home decorating supplies - I work in the head office, doing their social media marketing.

And that's just the big things! I wonder what 2010 will bring....

I'm looking for a few new things to take with me when I go to market - but the problem is I want to make so many things, I won't possibly have time to get them all done!

Will you help me narrow my list down?

What would you like to see at a Two Cheese Please market stall?

I thought it would be fun to have a little event on my blog, where you could watch one of my ideas come to life in the form of a plush.

I have called it an Extreme Craft Challenge and it's a little like white water rafting only I'm going to attempt to start and finish a doll in one day. Maybe two. Okay so it's a Semi-Extreme Craft Challenge.

I've finally got my idea onto paper and I'm ready to go first thing tomorrow! So please do come pop over to my blog bright and early tomorrow (Aussie time), as I'll be blogging this crazy attempt at turning craft into an extreme sport. There will be updates during the day as things progress... or go horribly, horribly awry.

I don't know about you, but whenever I have a lot of stuff to do (and right now I have A LOT OF STUFF</u> that needs doing), I get my most productive.

...Of course, I get productive with things I DON'T need to do ;) ;)

Like right now. I have 5 weeks of university to catch up on, things I need to craft, a whole house that needs cleaning... But of course it's the perfect time to be starting a new hobby!

Been wanting to try needle felting for a while now. Caved in last night and stabbed out a bunny.

EDIT:    THANK YOU fairy-cakes

Is there anyone out there who likes personalised stamps?

I mean really personalised. I mean stamps made JUST for you! Nobody else in the world will have them! Stamps of whatever you want, carved with love and mailed to you wherever you may live?

Well if you do I would love to trade with you!

My subscription is about to run out and I would like to swap stamps for the gift of a new sub!

The bigger the sub, the more stamps you'll receive!

Any takers? Just note me! :D

Alright, let me apologise again for all of this fuss. Who would have thought it would prove so hard just to try and get a little charity happening!

( I can understand ebay's policies - there was a man in Queensland arrested for taking donations for the bushfire appeal, with no intent of ever actually passing the money on.... )

So I have listed my stamp package here on etsy.

My apologies to people who had already bid (again!) and I hope that you all are still interested enough at this stage that someone will want to go and purchase it! I know with the auction system that if you really wanted it you could keep bidding and bidding to ensure you beat out someone else, so if there's more than one person who'd actually really like one of these purse-stamp packages (for reasons other than just to help out some poor folk down here), I will be happy to list some more!

( One final note: I know the currency conversion rate is horrible right now, so if you're an Aussie/Kiwi then I'm quite happy to deal in local monies ($50AU). Or if you wanted to make a bigger donation, right now $50US works out to be $75AU, it's up to you :) A donation is a donation and I'd rather people not stretch their own budgets too far in the process! )

Edit: Unfortunately ebay cancelled my auction (apparently if you need written authorisation from a charity if you use their name in a charity auction) so I've relisted my package HERE. Rest assured the money will still go to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal!

I'm sorry to those who have already bid. Please do bid again!

Bushfire appeal auction by restlesswillow

I've popped this little package up on ebay as a charity auction - all funds raised from the sale of this package go to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

It contains:

* 1/2 metre of hand stamped linen bias tape on a miniature wooden spool
* Two 1 inch badges made from hand-stamped linen
* One packet of 45 round stickers stamped with sprout, cupcake and house designs
* A matching pair of angel wing rubber stamps, hand carved and mounted onto wood

All packed up, ready to make its way to your house in a quilted and machine "painted" purse frame purse, lined with a 'cafe latte' coloured satin for a little bit of secret luxury.

( Bowl not included, sorry! It's my new favourite photo prop. )

100% of proceeds from the sale of this package (except postage) will go to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Please bid and give a little hope to the survivors of this tragedy! Now is the perfect time to buy yourself a handmade gift, and help out at the same time!

I have some exciting news!

I have been invited to exhibit at this year's Stitches & Craft show alongside a whole bunch of crafty Aussie ladies.

I'll have my very own stall at the Incubator area, and I'll be holding workshops where you can learn to carve your own stamps, or make your own donut softies.

I hope to see some of you guys there! The team at Living Creatively have taken over and it's going to be bigger and better this year! It's not just going to be the biggest craft and design fair in Melbourne, it's going to be a craft experience!
